Hi, can anyone recommend a good mic stand for traveling by plane (maybe one that collapses to about two feet so it can be stuffed in a soft luggage bag)? I'm heading out to Denver for Christmas and want to tape Yonder while I'm there, but don't want to bring a long, slender case wrapped in duct tape to keep it from opening the way I did the last time. Nope, no weapons being checked here, ma'am.
Maybe one of those smaller stands that can be snuck in FOB might do the trick. TIA.

How about one of those small collapsible camera tripods with telescopic legs that go down to about a foot long + a thread adaptor 1/4"to 3/8" of course.

My reccomendation would be to just clamp as there are sure to be other tapers there. But the Bogen 3373 will fit into most standard size luggage.

The tripod idea is not nearly tall enough. Wouldn't be worth bothering with because this would only get your mics at highest to head level.
This is what you want. I have one of these and it's really lightweight and is about 2 feet long all folded up, so it fits into my suitcase perfectly. I have it here with me in Slovenia...so proof positive that it fits into a standard size suitcase.

Note the top though because you'll need one of those adapters if you don't already have one.
I see that they're listing two in this ebay listing, but there should be a listing with only one somewhere out there.
Here's the adapter that you need...

Most people have a 3/8 to 5/8 threaded adapter (from their mic mounts) to fit onto this, but if you don't, then you also need one of these...

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll check that eBay stand out! :D

Clamp it for this trip. Plenty of tapers will be at those shows.

Hey dude...if you can deal with a short stand, Bogen / Manfrotto #3373 is a fantastic small stand. It's a 5 section stand that extends to 7ft, is black and has those nice legs that can adapt to a tight space. Closed up it's less than 20". I got one for small spaces and easy portability and love it. Just make sure to get the adapter for your t-bar (sold seperately). I got mine through the mail from B & H Photo a few years ago. Happy taping.

You want to buy one of these. It is a Bogen 3373 knockoff and is cheaper. Wish I would have seen it before I bought my 3373.

however, if you are going to Yonder, I imagine there will be plenty of people to clamp to. So I recommend the Windtech clamp
