Title: Matisyahu soundboard xlr box to record with computer
Post by: crossthreaded on December 04, 2008, 07:25:23 PM
Matisyahu sound guy was using some little white box that had xlr's plugged into one side and ran into either usb or I'm assuming firewire, and was then hooked up to his powerbook.

anyone know what this thing is?

Would it be useful for pulling a matrix since I don't have a 4 channel recorder (2 channel from 670 and mics, 2 channel from board)

I'm kinda thinking it would be a pain in the ass to get the sounds matched up timewise, but am still curious as to what the device was he was using.

not too descriptive so thanks for any advice or help  ;D

I'll look to see what that box is tomorrow night. as far as a matrix is concerned, you'd have to do some math every night and put a certain amount of delay on 2 channels if you're doing it on the fly, like with the front and back inputs on a UA-5. If you're doing 4 channels separate into your pc, you can just match them later.

cool.  i found some  1channel versions online but this was 2 channels and about the size of a vhs tape.

i have wanted to upgrade to 4 channels (744t) but money is too tight now.  i need to upgrade mics first anywyas.

thanks for the help

Would this be the little white box?

he may be using it for a spectrum analyzer.  Recently I have seen a couple SD USB pre boxes used for this same thing.  Both Kenny (Engineer for The Radiators) and Slim (Engineer for the Mule)  both use the SD usb pre to tune there  mix.
