DIY? There are a couple threads here if that's an option. Doesn't get any cheaper.

That's a Rycote Baby Ball Gag - £64.50 +VAT in the UK and the matching Windjammer is £32 +VAT retail.
You need to know the body diameter of the mic.
You don't say what country you are in, so I can't point you anywhere.

Someone recently posted a pretty cool DIY project for some of these. I can't find it now, but the basic design feature was a pair of mesh easter eggs purchased from a craft store, then fitted with a large sized 'dead rat' that fit the egg.
If it's only the muffs you're after, Windtech Mic Muffs (see link below) work great and they're quite inexpensive. Pretty strong wind isn't heard through the muffs and screens. I like these mic muffs because they have elastic on the 'open' end that allows them the sinch down nice and tight, and then there's a velcro 'clasp' to keep them tight and to keep them from falling off. From personal experience, if the open end doesn't sinch down and the wind is from behind the mic stand, you'll still get wind rumble.

A friend of mine made some windshields by using kitchen sieves - they have a very open mesh design.

That was my DIY project. The only hard part was the DIY rat, which wasn't that hard really.

in doing a search for windscreen inforamtion - this thread seems to be the one with the most info, so it is the one i am bumping...
i am looking for a solution for the akg c422, as the foam one that comes with the microphone is less than ideal, as i dont think it will stand up to some a/c systems that are in the ceilings of some clubs...
thanks, in advance, for any input or insight...

You'll probably catch more eyes if you post a new, dedicated thread with "AKG C 422 / 426 windscreen" or some such in the title.

I was thinking the same thing for my 426 as I am sure there will be some situations this summer where I am gonna wanna run the 426 out doors. I think a custom dead rat is gonna be the way to go.
