Title: DE-15 Breakout Cable For 788T
Post by: blee421 on December 11, 2008, 05:13:49 PM
I spoke with Sound Devices and they do not make a breakout cable for the D-sub connector.Has anyone else found one.

I came up with this.

I think you want AES with a DE-15 connector.
That cable in your link is a VGA cable for video.

So new you might have to make it.
Why didn't they use a standard D-sub25?

most of these are custom jobs for the specific outputs you want/need for various situations.  A lot of the higher end ENG recorders cram a whole bunch of outputs into a db25 connector.

I am sure somebody like trew audio or posthorn would be more than happy to whip something up.

edit:

Well it looks like SD went w/ a unique 15 pin cable that looks like a VGA cable design.

Call up Trew Audio. The DB-15 actually isn't without precedent, that's what Zaxcom uses on the Deva for the Digital I/O cables. They use a DB-25 (parallel port -- remember those??) on the analog output connector.

And don't forget the old Apogee AD1000, DA1000, and AD500 which all used the VGA style High Density  15 pin D-Sub Connectors

That cable would doubt fully work - it is designed to connect a VGA graphics card to a Composite Analog monitor -> Like used on the old Sun/SGI workstation monitors in the late 80's - mid 90's.    So I would be extremely surprised if the pin out is remotely the same.

Get one custom made as the others say above

very different, i think only the 5/6 AES output would work but some of the other connections may be shorted and damage the 788
