The Etymonic ER6i can be found for a little over $50.

At first I wasn't terribly impressed with mine, but once they broke in...wow (at least for the money).

I got mine from Amazon.com. The had them on sale a few weeks back for $50. Looks like they're a tad over $75 now. Spend the extra dough if you can. You won't regret it.

I recommend a pair of ER-6's for clear articulation.  They really need to be properly sealed in your ear to pickup the low end response.  For when more low end is desired (with the sacrifice of some clarity), I recommend the Skull Candy Full Metal Jacket (the 11mm driver versions....there's also a 9mm model).  I'm not a big fan of SC in general....mainly a lot of fluff and gimmicks.  But they're a nice backup to have and feel a little more durable than the Etymotics.  Each can be had in the $50 range (sometimes a bit lower, try fleabay).

These OSP EU-4's are some of the best sounding in ear monitors that you can buy for the price. $69

They rival the sound of their Etymotic Research & Shure counterparts that are double the price.

just my $.02

I haven't tried their headphones but The Speaker Company makes good speakers for the prices they charge - http://www.thespeakercompany.com/Headphones-C26.aspx  I'll bet their headphones are good at these prices too.

Use coupon code HEADFONE for 20% off.

Generally speaking, the in-ear headphones that are mostly being recommended here are going to have better fidelity than earbuds.  But if you're looking for true earbud and not in-ear 'phones, the Sennheiser MX 660 sound pretty good (the Sennheiser MX 560 are the same thing without the volume slider).
