Title: should I use interconnects when I use attenuators?
Post by: mikesalvo on December 25, 2008, 04:21:37 PM
or can i just hook them right into my UA-5? I don't see why not, but I mean clearly 2 attenuators sticking out of a UA-5 is not the most convienent setup, and I prolly will wind up picking up some interconnects, but if need be, can I just go attenuators>UA-5?

sure why not?

It's one more potential point of failure, but there shouldn't be any sonic difference if your cables are properly wired.

Attenuators should always be placed directly at the input of whatever circuit stage you consider vulnerable to overload.

If you run any significant length of cable between a pad and the input circuit of a preamp, recorder or mixer, it's as if you were amplifying any interference that might occur in that length of cable, by the exact same degree as you are attenuating the signal.
