+1 for Cog.  At the risk of repeating something you're already aware of, I also highly recommend xACT (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14246 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14246)) for, among other processes, converting SHN & FLAC files.

MacAmp Lite X is what I've had the best results with compared to those listed above. Of course, YMMV, but nobody listed it yet.

I use MacAmp most of the time. No longer supported but can be found here:

I have also used Play and like it, but not as much as MacAmp. YMMV.
