How much do you want to spend? That's the real question. With that answer the software decision may be made for you.

Post by: saaintjimmy on January 06, 2009, 05:44:38 PM: You can buy iLife 08. It includes Apple Garageband. A very simple audio editing program. Only Downfall, it doesn't support flac. All yo need to do is use the program Music Man to convert to a lossy wav file (still raw).

Or for a very advanced audio editing program you can get Logic Studio. It's very pricey but is under $750

Post by: hummat on January 07, 2009, 08:39:40 AM: I started using Logic Express when I went to a 4-channel rig. I really like it. Learning curve wasn't bad at all. However, there are some things it just can't do, like splitting into tracks. So I was using SoundStudio for a while until the price of Wave Editor dropped to something like 50 bucks. Included in that are those fancy,schmancy re-sample and dither functions.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had always used CD Wave Editor in a virtual Windows because I couldn't find a Mac program that handles CUE sheets well. Seems like those days are over...

Yeah, fission is about as close to CD Wav as you get for OSX. Overall, I'm happy with buying it. There are lots of features on it that are clearly not meant for hi-fi audio, but it's pretty simple to use. Easier than tracking in Audacity, Peak, etc.

WaveBurner. You can only get it bundled with Logic Studio though... :P
