I would suggest you read the forums for a bit.  They are rich in information about what works and what does not work and why.

Two standard questions to which everyone will need the answer in order to provide meaningful feedback:

Budget?
Open or stealth (or both)?

Usually being "in the pit" you'll be too close to the stage, and won't get a good sound mix from the speaks. Typically, you'll want to be either :
A. Directly in front of one of the stacks (stackhumping)
B. In a position triangulated from both stacks ( you would be out on the floor a little bit away from the stage, in the center)

Obviously, you could tape from anywhere, even the restroom, but those are usually the two best sounding locations.
