Title: Upgrade batteries on iRiver h140
Post by: FotherMucker99 on January 17, 2009, 11:40:18 AM
Hi there!

Could anyone tell me which batteries are best for an iRiver h140.

I need more battery power for the European summer festivals.
I've got the original battery with 1300 mAh, which is not enough for 3 day festivals.

eBay links would be helpful!

Make a search for "h140 battery" on ebay for yourself. Most sellers don't state the name of the manufacturer, so you have to look carefully at the pictures. If you can see the Cameron Sino logo, you're good to go. No pole switching needed.

By the way, ipod gen 1 batteries are more common thus "fresher" and the modification isn't difficult....  It's all in the thread above.

You won't find a battery to go INSIDE the unit which will last for a 3 day festival.

Some people (including me) get these little black boxes off Ebay for $10-20, you put 4 AA batteries in them, and it plugs into the iRiver, and that will power it for about a day.  So you buy a big package of AA batteries and you are good to go.

Start with a freshly charged battery in the iRiver.  This device won't have the power to charge a dead iriver while it's recording, but if it you start with it charged, and plug this in all day it will pretty much keep it charged.

I'm sure there are a variety of solutions out there, but this is the simplest.

Search for "iriver battery pack" on ebay and a few of them will pop up too, just look at the pics.

or if you don't want to use alkaline disposable batteries you could get a Power Runner with variable voltage and a RadioShack adaptacable and power it all weekend. Again start with a fully charged internal battery.

I used one like this on long road trips and never killed it

Prob cheaper in the long run too since good AAs aren't cheap

I see ones for the H10 and H300 series.  Does the H10 use the same plug as the H120?

Here's the ebay URL for the H1xx series:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390002778955

It didn't show up in your search because the Germans mistranslated it as "battery charger" while it's really an external battery pack!
Note that the seller is System-S, the same as I linked in the previous thread. So you might as well buy straight from them in their web shop if you decide to import from overseas.

Agreed. I do the same. I really like the external battery pack option. It gives me a sense of security, since I've had my iRiver die on me after fully charging the internal battery. Now, I charge the iriver as normal, before a show. At the show, I plug in the external pack and I haven't had my recorder die while recording yet. I run my external battery pack with rechargable AA's.
