I was wondering if a t-bar with 5/8" mount would fit this stand without the need for an adapter. From the wording of the ad it would seem so but I know nothing about mic/light stands. It looks like a good deal. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The mic stand to which you linked has a 5/8"-male STUD and a 1/4"-male thread. So it will not fit the 5/8"-female thread on your mic bar. To fit it all together, you need either a
- 1/4" | 5/8" adapter (sometimes difficult to find), or
- 1/4" | 3/8" adapter + 3/8" | 5/8" adapter, or
- 5/8"-female stud | 3/8"-male thread rapid adapter (http://www.adorama.com/BG3102.html) + 3/8" | 5/8" adapter (http://www.adorama.com/BG3366.html) (my preference)

Yeah, that'll work -- that adapter is the first bullet in my response. Historically, it hasn't always been easy to find. Throw extra shipping into the mix, and it's probably not as big a price difference as you might think, and IMO the rapid adapter + thread adapter makes for easier on/off and setup. Either way, you'll be good to go.

that will work
but in the long run there are so many reasons to use the quick connect rapid adapter. one main one is threadding on a spreader bar each - show can lead to stripping the threads. There may come a time when you will need to remove your mics quick and with the rapid adapter it happens in one quick motion and they are still on the spreader bar ready to go- if need be.
after many years recording live music in many different conditions and situations,
I'd advocate for the Rapid adapter too!

imho, getting a rapid adapter was one of the best things i did to make set up/tear down easier.
it is such a small amount of money to get, and it is easily worth 10 times that in effort & aggravation saved.

Then there's a consensus. Thanks for all the input guys - lots of years of experience wrapped up in those opinions I expect. That's got to be worth more than the 7-8 bucks I'd save going the cheap route. Quick connect it is...
