Since the machine won't turn off, it possibly just needs to be reset, which will happen automatically when the battery runs down until the machine turns off. Of course you would then need to recharge the battery. If the machine is still on now, reset it by pushing a pin into the small hole to the left of the USB port and holding it until the machine resets.

Assuming the machine gets up and running, you would obviously need to copy your rockbox folder back to the iriver(which hopefully you saved before formatting) in order to run rockbox.

ok it shut down like you said but it's now stuck on the load up screen where it says rock box folder version 5 battery 3.39v
I don't think I copied the folder cause I was gonna try and reload it on there.

Sorry I don't have any answers for that that I'm confident about. Anyone???

One thing to try is if it will connect to the computer as a hard drive, you could take the rockbox folder out and see if it boots OK into the iRiver software. If so, your rockbox folder probably has something corrupted in it and you could try a fresh install of rockbox by going to the rockbox site.

(update) the good news is I connected it to the computer and it's charging.....possible good news.

Connect it to your computer, do a hard restart using the pin, and see if when it starts the reboot cycle it is recognized on your computer.  I think the iriver will check for a USB connection before going through it's usual start up.

first let it charge, 3,39V is very low...

then, power it down, and connect it to the pc. The rockbox bootloader should come up and switch to USB mode. Now you can copy rockbox back.

You do not need a hex file. That was the bootloader, and that is still on your player since it is stored in flash. Only the stuff on the harddrive needs to get installed:
- main rockbox zip file
- the extra's: fonts pack, any theme you want,...

After that is should boot into rockbox. If not, it should give an error code

From what I've read so far you haven't been systematic when troubleshooting.

1. While troubleshooting, make sure you're connected to AC power.
2. If you boot into original/legacy Iriver firmware (ie not Rockbox), does it behave as normal?
3. If you connect it to a computer, have you ran the utilities to check the disk integrity and fix errors? (search the forum here for which commands and switches to use). What results did you get?
4. To eliminate all uncertainty, format the disk using the built-in format function of the legacy Iriver firmware while disconnected from the PC (search the forum if you can't find the right submenu). Don't use the format function in Windows, it won't work.

If the disk is flaky, consider doing the CF mod.
If the disk is proven faultless, I have to leave it to the smarter guys here. ???
I'd put a dime on disk issues...  ;D

(Yeah Made sure it's connected)

(Yes when its connected to the charger it behaves normally BUT apart from plugging it into the computer which puts it in usb mode. I can't get it to do much else....what help can you point me to.....Ill do the cf mod as a last resort but can you direct me thread wise to what else I can try?

Yes when its connected to the charger it behaves normally

OK, just follow these instructions then...

1. Boot into original firmware and format:
http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,75259.msg1004971.html#msg1004971
(If you can't find the format option, your Iriver firmware is too old. Upgrade and flash to 1.29k.)

2. Still have problems formatting. Go here:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverFAQ#The_original_firmware_no_longer
http://www.misticriver.net/forums/iriver-h3xx-series-h320-h340/52604-need-help-getting-firmware-new-hard-drive-my-h320.html

3. After a successful format, run chkdsk:
http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,75259.msg1004971.html#msg1004971

4. Reinstall rockbox

5. Post your results here.  ;D
