Title: FR2-LE HPF location in chain?
Post by: page on February 06, 2009, 12:29:38 PM
Anyone have an idea where the HPF is used (before A/D, before gain, after metering, etc) on the FR2-LE?

They're not terribly clear in the user's manual are they.

The 'correct' place would be before the mic pre so it reduces overload from wind or mic motion.  The UM says that's what it's for, but they don't specifically say it's for the mic inputs only.

Page, I understand that with most of today's flash/HDD wave recorders, limiters and filters are not always fully analog in the way they were on the portable professional DAT recorders back in the day.

Often the gain control is not analog either, since active electronics are typically placed between the inputs and the gain controls.

You should email Doug Oade for a definative explanation, as he knows these units circuit layouts very well.

Busman might know also, since he works around those parts.
