Title: Spot the PSP3, round 2
Post by: TNJazz on February 14, 2009, 12:53:43 PM
If the text below looks familiar, it's because I cut and pasted from the last post.  I'm a creature of habit, after all.  The environment for this comp was exactly the same as last time anyway, only the band is different.

OK, here's a little comp I ran last night at a local show.

Mics were Nevaton MK49

Stand was about 6 feet from the stage, dead center.  Lines were split directly out of the mics.

One set went to the V3, which then hit the Oade CM R44 at 24/44.1 via S/PDIF.

The other set went to the AETA PSP3, which then went line in to the Oade CM R44 at 24/44.1

Both files were dithered with MBIT+.  I did not normalize them, so the levels are close but might not be dead on.  No other processing was done.

Can you spot the PSP3?

Just curious...

I can't tell any difference between the two.

To me, these samples sound very close. Sample 2 sounds just a tiny bit more open/spacious.

sample 1 PSP3
sample 2 V3

There is definitely a difference.  I will agree they are awfully close.

I'll leave this up for a couple more days before I reveal which is which.  Come on people!  Everybody always says they want comps, then no one ever comments!  Well here you go!  The perfect opportunity!

We await your comments.
