The RØDE "Dead Kitten" windshield is designed to fit over the RØDE Stereo VideoMic It fits many small recorders. Price is about $25 USD.

I've used the Rode deadkitten on the Sony D50 with great success. Highly recommended at the price.

nolonemo,
Does the Dead Kitten windshield use an elastic band or a drawstring
to close around the mic/recorder? The drawstring might let you adjust
the fit around a larger range of shapes.

The deadkitten has elastic around the opening, not a drawstring. The opening is around 2" in diameter, but stretches out quite a bit more. I can put it over the D50's mic cage, which is about 3/4" x 2-3/4", and still be able to stretch it out to the side another 1-1/4" or so. On the other hand, it slides onto the Zoom H2 without stretching the elastic at all, though it seem secure enough. So it really won't work on the smallest recorders without some kind of mod.
On the other hand, if I put the deadkitten on a little voice recorder I have, which is f I put a ruler in the opening and stretch/squeeze it flat it's about The opening sqeezed flat is about 3" long, and if I stretch the opening along the ruler it stretches to about 5" long so it's pretty stretchy. So figure unstretched the opening would be around 1/2" x 1", but it will stretch to 1/2" x 2". Actually, more than that, because I get put it on the D50, which must be at least 1/2"
