Title: Nevaton & AETA preamp comp
Post by: TNJazz on March 01, 2009, 10:46:18 PM
OK, here's a little comp I did last night.

The sources are as follows:

Nevaton MK49 -> AETA Mix2000 -> Oade CM R-44
Nevaton MK49 -> AETA PSP-3 -> Oade CM R-44
Nevaton MC48 -> Wendt X2 -> Korg MR1

Please rate the three in your order of preference.

3, 2, 1.

Source 3 sounded the most balanced across the spectrum to my ears. Nice highs, mids, and lows.

Source 2 sounded similar to Source 3, but was lacking a bit of the presence that source 3 had.

Source 1 sounded the most unique of all the sources. It didn't sound bad, but I liked it the least of all three. I think it has to do with how the vocals sound on this source. Overall a warmer feeling to this source, but there is still something that I'm not crazy about.

3,2,1 as well. 3 seemed very natural, 2 sounded more suddle then 3, and 1 sounded more bassy.

2,3,1

same

1 seemed to have the most detail, esp when all instruments where playing loudly, you could still hear some seperation, but was a little too bassy. I really couldn't make up my mind if i liked this one the best or the least   :-\
3 had good separation also, but it didn't sound as smooth as the other two
2 was the most pleasant to listen too top too bottom, my only complaint was i thought it lost some detail when all instruments where playing loudly.

they were all pretty darn close, i thought the last comp you did was much easier to tell the difference...maybe it was just my mood or something?

if I had to hazard a guess, i would say
1= mix2000
2 = psp3
3 = x2

1,3,2

This was my first inclination as well, but after a couple of listens I changed my mind completely...

I have to admit that further listening has changed things a bit as well on my end.  My post came after just a quick scan of the three yesterday morning before I left for work.  I still like 1, and the clarity of 2, but the highs seem too centered on 2.  Granted, I'm not running full-range speakers either, so that may be why I picked 1 off the bat.  A little more listening has leaned me towards "3,1,2".

Well, I was hoping to have a few more folks weigh in, but OK:

1 = MC48-> Wendt X2-> Korg MR1

2 = MK49-> AETA Mix2000-> R44

3 = MK49-> AETA PSP-3-> R44

The x2 is working real well with the nevaton, however it may not have the same positive results with the neuman.  I used to see a lot of 140/psp3 tapes though.

Dirk, what was your order of preference of the 3 sources?

Dirk, what was your order of preference of the 3 sources?

3-2-1 as of my last listen.  I'm still trying to figure out optimum settings for the Mix2000.  Once I do, I really expect it to shine.
