I'm looking at this little clamp at B&H, but it says it has a 5/8" 'post' but not clear if that's just a stud and if it's possible to attach a rapid adapter to it.

rapid adapter should fit perfectly on there. Def a crappy pic on B&H as it does not show the stud, or give much info on it. A google search yielded several vendors, but only the same pic as shown on the B&H site...cool lil clamp though.

edit: on closer inspection, looks like the post swivels possibly, which wouldn't be ideal.

The clamp in the original post lools like the bottom half of a Pedco UltraClamp (see below). The specs page (http://www.pedcopods.com/specsulc.htm) shows the two halves of the clamp: lower half (like what you have, and to which it seems they've attached a 5/8" stud) and the upper half (which isn't included in the original post's image or product page). Pic below.

I didn't find the UltraClamp all that secure when using LD mics (AKG C414), or in general for that matter. I didn't think (a) the plastic disc at the base of the main rod was very robust, (b) the rubberish sleeve towards which one screwed it down gripped surfaces very well, or (c) the triangular indent in the frame provided enough surface area to grip the clamping surface. But I know others have different, more positive opinions. YMMV. (FWIW, I prefer the Windtech Multi-Position "C"-Type Clamp (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/298908-REG/WindTech_MPC_10_Multi_Position_C_Type_Clamp.html).)

Thanks gents for the input. Anyone have experience with this clamp? Just wondering if the mount/post/stud freely swivels or if it can be tightened so that your mics don't rotate too much. :P

The dial inside the clamp frame with the 1/4" thread, and to which the 5/8" stud is attached, rotates freely with nothing connected to it. Whatever one screws onto it -- in this case the 5/8" stud -- needs to screw all the way onto the 1/4" threaded post and create enough friction with the 1/4" thread's base plate to prevent rotation. I assume the 5/8" stud is secured so it doesn't rotate, otherwise the clamp wouldn't be terribly functional.

hate to thread jack, but what's the diameter of that middle hole in that Cool-Lux stud? Going on it's a 5/8" stud (perfect for the rapid adapter), that inside whole is much smaller of course. This might be the missing link to a monopod I picked up

Looks like 1/4" to me.
