Can I use an SD card that holds more than 2 Gigs without any additional firmware or any other such alterations? I have a R-09 on loan to me and I'm using it to transfer old cassette masters onto at work and would like to know if I'm stuck with only 2 Gig cards. Since it's not mine, I don't want to alter it in any way.

From www.edirol.net
EDIROL is proud to announce that the widely popular EDIROL R-09 WAVE/MP3 Recorder is now compatible with 8-GB SD High Capacity (SDHC) cards.

You just need to have the 1.30 firmware instaled.
Take care and have fun ;)

Depending on the firmware installed, its good with SDHC cards up to 32GB. I use 16GB cards. Earlier firmware may not report card size properly and might botch the 2GB split, but that shouldn't be an issue with cassette x-fer sized files in any case. Won't hurt it to try.

Correct. Since I moved to the R-09HR I lost contact with the old R-09 details.

Cool. Now the question is, is it free? Remember, this isn't my machine, I'm just borrowing it for a while. I just finished AIMing with him (he's out of the country), and he gave me the go ahead to do it. How do I get this firmware... I've never had to do anything like this before.

Let me Google that for you. (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Edirol+R-09+firmware)
Again, updating the firmware probably isn't necessary for you, but the topmost result from the search above takes you to the update & instructions.

Does such a list exist for the R-09HR? I have searched with no luck.

Yes. There you go:
http://www.roland.com/faq/en/R-09HR/R-09HR_SD.htm
But this list really needs to be updated. I've been using a Kingston 16GB Class 4, no problem, no issues at all.
And my card is not on the list.

Another great source of info is the first thread in this section.

I had no idea such a thing existed. Really liked the ability to see what others are searching. Funniest one I saw was Reasons why your period is late. Could it be you're preggers?
Thanks, that'll come in very handy for sending links to my family (who all seem to call me for free tech support).

anyone using the transcend class 6 8 gig cards? or the pny 16 gig?
borrowing a r9 for a show and these are the cards I use in my r44. I plan on digging around the team thread but thought I'd ask here.

anyone using the transcend class 6 8 gig cards?
fwiw, i've an older transcend 8 gig class 2 that's always worked fine in two different R-09s.
