Title: Stereo Mics and Pre Amp for ALD in small theater
Post by: terrapinj on March 17, 2009, 07:06:24 PM
I am helping a local, small theater get set up with some ALD devices.

The room doesn't have a PA so I would need a pair of mics (or would Mono suffice?) and a small pre to install on the ceiling and feed to a Audix IR transmitter.

Wondering if there are certain mics or pre that are ideal for this type of setting - primarily theater but may occasionally have some music.

Budget is around $500-$700 for mics and pre but the cheaper the better

Can't help you too much with actually mics, but as an ALD user I can give a few tips. The feed will almost certainly be mono, so you're better off with just a mono mic. And try to avoid the IR, go for a FM system--they're 100 times better.

this was the device suggested to me - http://www.audex.com/infrared.html

we've got a friend who works for Disney and this is what they use and recommended - do you think IR v FM would make a big difference in a small room? capacity is maybe 100 people or so
