Hi been awhile since ive been up on the new gear etc. What im trying to do is transfer all my DAT tapes which is going to take forever on an external HD..what is the best route to go? i have no idea. i also need some software to record the incoming DAT obviously. can i use CD Wave editor? I also have the newest version of Soundforge.. Also the sound card. I think my Fostex D5 only has optical ins/outs? maybe AES EBU? cant remember. I just want to record to the external HD as well. maybe firewire is better or USB2.0 cool? thanks for your help sorry for all the questions. thanks

CD wav works fine, I used it when I had a dat deck.
That reminds me, I have a soundcard (Echo MiaMIDI) sitting in my desktop unused since I don't need it anymore for dat transfers....

Someone had an RME card in yard sale for trade.

This would be a good card for DAT transfers. You could use toslink between that an a D5.
