Hello everyone:
We just received our first shipment of the Tascam DR-100 recorder on Friday. We are still playing with it, but we did a couple quick sample recordings for folks to listen to. First impressions are very positive - the mics preamps seem to be much better than those we have heard recently. The samples were made of a short acoustic guitar riff, using:
-the built-in cardioid mics
-the built-in omni mics
-a set of SP-CMC-4U mics
-a set of AT4050 studio mics on cardioid setting
No editing other than normalizing was done to the files. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the built-in cardioid mics. Unfortunately, the omnis are terrible and very noisy. Listed for yourself here:

Any specific questions, feel free to contact me.

Chris, thanks for sharing these samples. Very useful!
I guess the omni mics are supposed to be used to record
a conversation around a conference table, not for music
or ambiance.

I switched my order from JR musicworld so I am eagerly awaiting my DR-100.
