Can someone instruct me how to make a dark footage brighter? From my camcorder the image looks normal but when I transferred the movie into Vagas it was darker. Is there a setting in Vegas 8 where I can adjust the brightness of the movie?
Thanks a lot

Play around with Brightness & Contrast and Levels settings. First make sure it's not you're monitor. My desktop normally looks darker than my laptop.

It very well could be your monitor. When I am color correcting video I plug in an old-school CRT monitor (broadcast not computer) or a TV to see how things look 'in reality'.
If you don't have access to a monitor or the correct connections to plug one it. I would suggest burning off a few minutes to DVD and looking at that on a regular TV/DVD player to see if, in fact, it is as dark as you think.

Yes I think it is the movie itself which is darker...I set my camcorder monitor as very bright so when I put the movie into my computer it looks darker...I also watched a bit from my TV after burning a few mins into a DVD.
Where is the brightness/contrast option in Vagas 8? Cannot see it in the edit tab.
Thanks a lot!

It's in the Video FX tab.

What I like to do is copy the video track to another track, then under composite mode use "add" then you can fade one of the tracks in or out until it looks right. It really makes things look nice using this method.

Nah, use LEVELS!

No matter how you do it, adding brightness to a dark video almost always comes with a price ~ as it comes out looking grainy. So use any brightening effect(s) very sparingly.

connect cam to your TV to see how dark footage really is

Go to VIEW and open up the video scopes.Use the waveform monitor.Check to see if the levels are at or beneath 0 ire.If so you need to adjust your levels....always use the video scopes. You could than go to video fx and use the broadcast colors preset of 7.5 ire lenient set up.
