Title: Essence of the 4.7k mod?
Post by: bipton on March 31, 2009, 04:20:06 PM
Wiring mics using Church's mod, is it basically attenuating the signal?

It does reduce the gain and it reduces the distortion at the same time. It is the same as 3 wire with respect to the gain reduction and distortion.

Not a problem, I should state that you actually lose less gain with my mod over three wire  ;)

Hi

One thing would be interesting for me: Why isn´t it possible ot build the mod into an adapter cable, so I could use a mic as high or low sens mic depending on the situation?

Thanks p.

Yes only if your mic is three wire... But not if its two wire with out doing a mod to the 2 wire capsule. Its not just a matter of sticking a pair of 4.7k resistors in series with the ground and signal path.
