Title: Help with first attempt...
Post by: Panthro10 on April 09, 2009, 10:11:05 AM
So I will be making my first attempt tonight.  I will be running busman bsc1 > stock fr2le. I will be recording my friends band - rock n roll, loud but not over the top.. Ears shouldn't be ringing afterwards.. I picture being able to set up about 20-25' from stage and 10' to the left of center. Thinking of running cardioids in an ortf setup just because that seems easiest with the tbar and I don't really know what caps to use. So my question would be does this seem like a reasonable setup? What are some ways to adjust to not being dead center. I have been reading the stereophonic zoom article, but it seems to assume you will be at dead center...

Any help? Thanks....

Don't adjust for being off center.  Maintain your ORTF pattern with cardioid caps, pointing forward in general... don't rotate towards the center of the stage.

If I ever had to set up off axis I generally point my mics at the stacks. If you arent sure what kind of caps to use the cards are generally a safe bet. If you think there might be some crowd noise you can always run the Hypers.

good advice. set your levels, start recording, and then don't touch/fiddle with the gear.

Not so great. I think something is wrong with one of the mics, but the good channel sounds really good,,,
