Post by: chrisv31 on April 22, 2009, 05:22:11 PM
HI,
I4ve a set of dpa 4061 omi and I4m looking for something to do cardiod recordings but still with mimiature stuffs so I'm thinking of a set of DPA 4080
What do you think about about it?

I'll be very interested to get a mp3 sample of a concert recorded that way
Thanks in advance

I wish someone with extra money would just buy a pair and let us  know what they are like.  Come on, somebody out there must have an extra grand.  I love my dpa omnis.

I have posted several times on this mic, I got it when it first came out.  It was not intended as anything but a bodyworn levalier mic, and had a fast bass roll-off, but as a 4060 user I had high hopes.  While it did not sound much worse than any other tiny cardioid, it was definitely not what I wanted.  What I can STRONGLY recommend is the "modded" 4099, which although a hyper cardioid has a much better bass response and is usable at distances (though I have been running 4 tracks with the 4063s, (for powering reasons, instead of 4060s) to pick up even better bass).  I have sent some samples of the 4099 and 4099-plus-omnis to a couple of TS posters who asked, but have not yet gotten up the samples I promised (busy busy until June).
