Those reference CDs you're using may not be the exact editions that Andre (EAC's creator, and one of my net heroes) used.

The best way of working out your read / write offset is here:

http://www.geocities.com/newbie_zone/EAC.html

Best of luck, any problems I'm sure there are a ton of people here to answer questions as we all use EAC, right?

You're right about the phishhook thing - it is the same instructions, I just looked it up.

What do you mean by comparing different tracks exactly?

if I compare track two from both extractions I get nothing.  if I compare say track two from the first and track five from the other I get an error but no offset number.  time to get on google.

OK I'm no EAC expert, just been using it for two years.

I still can't figure out why you'd want to compare two different tracks.

If you're following the instructions to compare the two .wav files as per the phishhook instructions, and you're getting no error report, this is all as it should be.

Have you tried burning from an extracted show? Sound OK?
