Howdy,
With festival time approaching I'm looking to add a 15', air cushioned, heavy duty mic stand to my kit. I'll more than likely run 2 sets of mics for outdoor shows this summer (3' spaced omnis as one set) and I'm looking for a rugged, dependable, beast to carry the load. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a bogen 3376. 17' and built like a tank.

I also have that big 17' daddy, 15 years and still going strong! But, I have never raised it much over 12'.
Anything Bogan/Manfrotto makes is worth getting, really. I would look at the Manfrotto 3364 (2009 model now called 004B), which is a 13' master stand that is not air cushioned, but that is really not needed. I have not found a situation where I needed an air cushioned stand in 25 years of taping. I also cannot imagine a situation where you would need to be any higher than 12', unless you are trying to eliminate some of the bass from the recordings you are making.

I'll be running several sets of mics from this stand - OUTDOORS - at least two of my own sets. So, what I'm really shooting for is to get above the CROWD NOISE as much as possible, with ALL of the mics on my stand. I might not need an air cushioned stand, but I like them, I have seen non-cushioned stands "slip" and fall and I do not like the jarring action produced when the weight above crashes down, it hasn't happened often, but when it does I like the cushion...
Thanks for your advice.

Shure S15 - 15' and solid as they come. Very heavy duty. My favorite.

I've been using this stand: http://www.shopwise2000.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=18 (http://www.shopwise2000.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=18)
I rarely go over 11 or 12' so it fits my needs perfectly and was only $50. Its got a nice option to mount the stud horizontally so you can run M/S or Blumlein easier.

this is the stand I went with, not 15', but close

I recently just got one of these 13footers.... and it is a BEAST!!! Got it locally even.... I'll tell ya where if ya really want to know... 8) You can take a looksie at it before you make a decision.

Outdoors is the only place that this thing would fit..... BEAST!!! I almost returned it cause it is so freakin big!
edit: air cushioned. for the price, I'm not sure it can be beat.... Made in USA... lifetime warranty. But the top section of stand is almost too thick in diameter.... not sure if all clamps will fit on this monster... my "diving board" clamp won't fit without a little modification. MONSTER.

this is the same model stand I mentioned 2 posts above. this thing rocks, but ya, it is kinda big and cumbersome but it is nice for festivals and outdoor taping where gear weight/size isn't a big issue.

good choice on the stand.
i use the 6045 (dont know what the difference is) but i wouldnt want to go any higher than what the stand offers. it is rock-solid, too...

I've had no problems with my Amvona (from eBay) stands. They're not air cushioned, but they do have a spring for each section in case you were to have a failure to keep from transferring a shock to your mics. I've already had more than a half dozen pairs on them with no second thoughts at all. They were around $50 for a 12' and a 15' shipped.

great suggestions. let me also suggest some tent stakes for your stand. pick up some cheap metal ones and you should be set for any festival.

yep stakes are a must! the savages are a bit bulky but i've never had a problem with the 2 i have. don't think i've ever gone over 8 or 9 feet with it either.
