Hey all,
I recently discovered that you can include your own image along with the Archive upload, and have it appear on the left side of the page (thanks su6oxone), but I'm wondering if there is a way to embed the mp3's that Archive derives with an image. Maybe if I let the Archive generate mp3's, then replace the files IT generates with files I created myself? Would that screw up the stream?
Thanks in advance.......

I think if you name them exactly the same as the originals, it might work - the stream just points to the mp3s that are on the server. Where would these images show up - in your media player?

Yes. Like when I convert a show to mp3 for personal use, I attach an image (usually the one in my avatar) to the files, and when they play on my iPod/ in iTunes etc, it displays the image as the album artwork.
Related - can you upload flacs, NOT let the Archive derive mp3's, then add your own mp3's? I'd love to have 320kbps mp3's up there for my tapes.

wouldn't the image be a "tag" associated with the file? i'm sure you can find a tagging program that allows you to tag an image with the flacs, but i think when the files derive via the LMA, they are "re-tagged" using the fields you provide for album, title, and creator. i don't think attaching an image tag is possible for the LMA mp3's. you may be able to preserve image tags for the flacs although i could be completely wrong...
i think the image upload (in the upper right corner) and image tags are two different things.

Correct.

Yep, this is where I'm at. Got in a discussion/argument with someone on PT who swears up & down that you can do this, of course the only example he's provided was mp3's that were directly uploaded with the images already tagged, not files derived by the LMA.

PT providing incorrect information?!?! i don't believe it :P
i would like to know if you tag your flacs with an image if that remains associated with the file when they are downloaded from the LMA. i know the other tags are so i'd imagine the image would be too. never tried it personally

I know the system does a periodic sweep of all shows to see if the derivation rules have changed, and creates/deletes files accordingly, so my guess is that if you say "no derivatives" to the show and then upload your own mp3's, they'll eventually be auto-detected and deleted. On the other hand, if they're 320kpbs files, which aren't standard derivatives, you might be in the clear. I've never seen this done so I can't say for sure...but I don't see any reason why you shouldn't try it. I have to imagine that if you replace the existing VBR mp3's with the exact same type of file but with the image embedded, it should work.

You can use EasyTAG (http://easytag.sourceforge.net/) to add pictures to MP3, FLAC, and Ogg Vorbis files. A command-line alternative for FLACs:
metaflac --import-picture-from=foo.jpg *.flac
For the other formats, it's easier to just use EasyTAG.
Winamp and Foobar2000 will display embedded pictures - but I haven't seen Windows Media Player make use of them.
