Hello,
I've recently bought a pair of Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L microphones, without powering module.
I'm looking for an efficient way to correctly power these microphones.
I've been using Soundman OKM II/Rock Studio microphones for years, with an A3 powering module.
From the technical data that I have been able to find online, this powering module delivers 6V to the OKM microphones.
Although the Sonic Studios's website states that "DSM mics special powering requirement is NOT met using other mic manufacturer's powering solutions" and that " just applying typical (9 volt battery) power of 5-to-10 volts, LOW current common for electret powering WILL DO NO HARM to DSM mic sets; it just doesn't work so well", I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to use a Soundman A3 adapter to power SS DSM-6S microphones.
Does using "other mic manufacturer's powering solutions" really result in a significant sound difference than using the SS solutions ?
Also, are there any other alternative way to correctly power SS mics than to use their own battery boxes ?
Any feedback highly appreciated,
Thanks!

A page about powering DSM mics with various solutions and maybe too much information is at:
www.sonicstudios.com/pa_x.htm (http://www.sonicstudios.com/pa_x.htm)
Using other powering modules/deck models with 9 volts or less battery supplies not meant for operating DSM mics usually places the pickup out of the normal bias range causing the mic to not operate or cause distortions at times. Using supplies over 12 volts may damage the mic.

Only guysonic's proprietary powering modules will work correctly. You may think a regular battery box is powering it correctly and then find occasional distortion on an important recording.
However, if your recorder is a SONY PCM-D50, its plug in power will work perfectly with guy's mics. Or if you have an EDIROL R-09, an EDIROL R-09HR or MARANTZ PMD-620 you can send it to guy to be modified so that its plug in power will power the mics correctly. Cost is $150 + shipping for the Edirols and $125+ for the Marantz).

ok, thanks for the answers.
Unfortunately, I am using an unmodified Edirol R09. Sending it for modification is not an option for me.
I guess that I have to find a SS battery box.
