Title: schoeps figure 8
Post by: spcyrfc on May 13, 2009, 01:41:01 AM
i've got a pair of akg 414's that i am holding on to mostly for the figure patterns.  i dig the mkh 8040 sound, but who knows when senn will launch a figure 8 pattern for them...

what sort of cost would i be looking at to get into a single schoeps figure 8 cap + body(?).  there seem to be a variety of options with schoeps mics.

should i be considering other things?  (i am considering keeping ONE 414, or both - just curious about the schoeps option due to the form factor.)

What i've got so far - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=405411&Q=&is=REG&A=details  ------- $1,215
http://www.pro-sound.com/p/SSCHCMC6U.html -------- $929

a cursory search of google tells me i am looking at +2k.  does this sound right?

thanks,

luke

If you like the MKH 8040, you may want to consider the Sennheiser MKH 30.  Not as small as the MKH 8000 mics, but it's a SDC and smaller than a 414.  It is a superb figure 8, at least as good as anything Schoeps sells.  They can be had for about $1300 new, and used they sell for about a grand.
