Title: clamp question
Post by: jibooer on May 18, 2009, 07:34:27 PM
I have a windtech mpc-10  clamp and was wondering if that would be satisfactory for clamping onto the balconies of the following: Bowery Ballroom, World Cafe Live, Paradise Club, Revolution Hall, Iron Horse.

If not, what clamp would be suggested - a Bogen superclamp?

Thx

Is the mpc-10 the "standard" windtech "C" type camp? If so it should work unless the balcony rail diameter is too large. For large diameter pipes, and lots of other places too, I recommend the Manfrotto 649 quick release clamp. I find myself using it more than any other clamp I own.

Rev Hall in Troy is a wrought iron railing with about a 1.5 in. square post or a 1 in. lower rail to clamp to.

The Paradise is a real challenge.  You basically have to clamp to the lip of the wooden balcony and it is angled at 45 degrees.  I've seen t-gak-man use some interesting techniques clamping to the shelf in front of the sbd area.

I'm not sure I'd trust that windtech c clamp in either of these situations.  I've used a superclamp in both places.

Here is the Paradise from a few weeks ago.

Ted, you are braver man than I.  I always thought that shelf in front of the sbd at the Dise was shaky at best, but you seem to prove that wrong.  Can't believe you clamped 414's to it using a windtech c clamp.

windtech is great for flat surfaces and posts.  Get a rowi for balcony railings that are that are contoured iron railing.  The rowi can be set so that it will hold much better than the windtech.  Super clamp will grab anything but it's not low profile.

World Cafe Live has a pretty thin sized iron railing. You can use just about any clamp
including a windtech. Very easy venue for clamping.
