hi guys - stupid question - can you use a 4GB or larger SDHC card with a PMD661? we are renting one for a local concert, but it only comes with a 1gb sd card, and we need more memory. thanks.

no problem at all to use larger cards. I routinely use an 8gb and a 16gb card, and I can't imagine that 4gb card would give you any trouble.

When I was running 4 gig CF cards in my old deck, I was usually very disciplined about archiving the master files right away, mainly because I had to in order to clear the card for use again. Now, using the larger cards with the 661, I am already getting lazy and letting shows pile up on them.
To answer the OP question, the manual says the 661 will support up to a 32 gig card.

thanks guys.

While the 661 will support larger card sizes...some users have reported issued with certain types of cards. Kingston cards have been problematic, according to some, when used with this deck. Stick to PNY or Sandisk (Extreme III) just to be safe.

Can anyone verify whether or not the recent firmware update fixed the problem with the Kingston sdhc cards?

I agree with the PNY or Sandisk recommendation, though there's not really any need for Sandisk Extreme III series. The less expensive Sandisk Ultra II series is just fine running 24/96.

Just got a OCM661 and am seeing some issues with various SD cards and am wondering if that is still an issue? I saw a post that says the 661 can use up to a 32gig card but i can't find that in the manual. any recommendations as to the best cards and even where i can get some good prices as i want start to stock up before festival season starts. thanks.

I use a 16gb Transcend without problems. You can get a class 6 32gb Transcend on Amazon for ~$96, with A Data and maybe Kingston going for ~$80, and class 4 Sandisk Ultra for ~98.

do you think that i should stay with at least class 4 and above? what do you think of the new class 10 ones??? is it overkill for what we want?? thanks
