I have a great opportunity to get an amazing deal on a pair of new Audio Technica AT4021's to use with my brand new Marantz PMD661. My question is: When I look on this forum, I see almost no mention of anybody using the AT4021's (or any mention of them at all hardly). Just curious why that is? I am getting them new for under $200. Just wondering what the consensus is on this mic (I know they are similar to the AT302X series)? Should work great with the PMD661, no? I was initially looking to get the AT4022 Omnis but this deal on the AT4021 is almost too good to pass up.
Thanks!

I say go for it!

What he said. There are a few people running AT small diaphragm mics, but not a lot. I'm not sure why...I think they're a mighty fine sounding mic. Go for it!

Yeah, I would love to hear what they sound like... so please post some shows on LMA if you get a chance. :P

i had a pair of the new AT4022 omnis, and they were amazingly good for the money. the freq response curve on the 4021s looks very good to me, and may be preferable to the popular 4041s. i would not hesitate to throw down the money for 4021s at the price you are getting - sounds like a no-lose proposition. if you dont like them, i will buy them from you. the AT4051s are pretty much my favorite mics, and i have owned DPA 4011s, schoeps cmc64s, c481s and c461s, gefell m300s, etc etc over the years.

ditto. 4021's will do. I run 4051 for the most part...love 'em.

So I got the AT4021's, they are GREAT, could not pass on that deal (got them for $220 each). However, as it turns out I really really need Omnis and really really need the AT4022's, so I am going to put these up on the Yard Sale. New, took them to the park and recorded some ambient stuff for 1/2 an hour, that's it.
