Hi,
I'm planning to record a show on two devices, one being LS-10 (sbd) and one being my iPod(preamp & mics). my iPod is a 40gb iPod photo, 4th gen if i'm right. hardly use this shitter these days...
here are my concerns
1. I just figured the iPod can record in WAV with Rockbox installed. I use Church Audio CA-11's and a ST-9000 preamp, I would use these with the iPod, anyone knows if that would work? or do I need an extra devce to conect to between the ipod and the output of the preamp?
2. If I install Rockbox on the iPod, will all my mp3's be gone? should I back them up or can I just overwrite itunes with rockbox and I will be fine?
I just came up with this idea, not really intending to tape with the ipod but if it records in wav and I can matrix two sources togehter I'd give it a go. thanks for reading, hope to hearing from you!
edit: just figured the iPod does not have any input lines. so I guess I have to forget about this idea.

The Rockbox will not work. It will install, but it will not record. There is no way for the mics to work. It will keep you music, and you can toggle back and forth between the two operating systems. Somewhere there is a thread where I had installed roxbox on my iPod and was asking why it would not record. I do not recall the whole thing, but the bottom line is that it won't work.

dallman, are you sure about this? Our dev that implemented this says it should work, at least it did when he implemented it.
Recording should work via the dock (line-in) or headphones connector (mono, mic)

I could not get mine to work. I will admit I gave up a while back. I am pretty sure I was told it was a no go, but I cannot recall who discouraged me. Maybe I should reinstall?

Maybe... The RockBox dev to contact via IRC or our forums is linuxstb, he told me it should work.

I know this works with an ipod nano... I modified a dock connector from sparkfun and I am able to record to my rockboxed ipod nano. It works great as a backup recorder! I use it to grab from the sbd to mix in post.. so yes you can record with a rockboxed ipod nano. assuming you have a line in connector attached to the dock connector. As for your ipod photo i got no idea.. but assuming they have a dock connector and you are able to determine which pins are which you should be ok.

Just like petur and the other mentioned, you need a dock adapter with line-in.
It's either $40 retail, or a DIY project for $5 + your time and soldering skills...
