Title: Anyone using the Hosa ODL-276 with the JB3
Post by: Chapper on January 15, 2004, 04:06:45 PM
Interested if anyone is using this for coax s/pdif to optical s/pdif (rather than the aes/beu model).  It'd be easier for me to use COAX (aes output on back of ad).
How are you powering it in the field?
Thanks!

I have one and plan on testing for bit-accuracy this weekend.

I have yet to use it in the field, but it is a 9v device so it can be run by a 9-volt battery (I have no idea how long though).  I am going to modify my UA5 battery pack (9.6v) this weekend and give it a ODL plug too, that way 1 battery pack can power both devices...

I'll get back to you monday or so with results and more info...

i think brian skalinder is using one.  he also ran numerous tests to confirm it's bit accuracy.  check with him and i'm sure he can tell you more.

The ODL-312 draws 50mA.  I'd bet the -276 draws the same.  You'll get a looooooooong run-time out of a 9.6v 1600 or 3000 mAH RC battery.

Is there a connection for a 9v battery?  Can't seem to find any info on powering the unit other than it ship with a Dc cable.

82.97 seems to be the best price I can find, from Sweetwater.  Anyone seen a better price?

Sound Professionals has a coax in>optical out for $25.  Anyone tried one of these?

I just hacked the wall wart cable for my -312, but it looks to me like one of the standard adaptaplug sizes commonly available at RS or higher quality ones available at online electronics stores.  Sorry, I don't have the inner/outer diameter specs.

I got my ODL-312 at Full Compass for $56 shipped, I believe.  Give 'em a call - their published price is NOT the actual selling price, at least in my experience.

I believe the SP box is the infamous "grey box" with which I've read people have encountered problems.  Seemed cheap to me just from the looks of it.  One of the things I like about the Hosa ODL- boxes is they're built like tanks.

And if you haven't already, check out the NJB3 Tapers (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/njb3tapers) Yahoo group.
