Hey, i've been taping for about 10 years now using different MD recorders. My MD is old and now the battery is so bad that the last two gigs have gone really bad, I only got 45mins and 60mins of the shows.
So, I was wondering what could be the best ways nowadays. I need something small but maybe with an hard-drive or something. Any help is welcome.
...oh and I need a better way to get the show to CD. Now I just use the headphones live to the computer.

Edirol R-09HR may be your best bet. Can get one for under $300 new I think.

Just like NASCAR where speed costs money; how fast do you want to go? What's your budget.
I've a SONY MZ-RH1 and love it, BTW. I also do not much use it but have some new mics I want to run with it.

for something small it's hard to beat Hi-MD.
for something using memory sticks it's hard to beat Sony's PCM-D50, but it ain't that small.
you might also consider a new battery for your unit.

Tascam dr-1 should do the job

That depends how much mic gain you need. If it is anything like the Edirol R09, gain is limited. A problem only for quiet shows, though.

good point. It would be helpful if he/she told us what else he is planning on running with his new recorder.

How much are you looking to spend? I love my Sony PCM-D50 ($500) but you're stuck using their proprietary memory sticks.

I was thinking of spending somewhere around 300-400 bucks.
Yeah I could get a new battery for my MD, thanks for the tip. :D

If your MD can handle mini-USB input, get this accessory battery pack. You will love it. I sure count on mine for field work.

I would highly recommend the Edirol R-09HR at that price point, or the Sony RH1/M200 Hi-MD if you want to stick to MD.

About a year ago I, I made the same transition (from MD to Solid State). I went from the Sony MZ-RH1 hi-md recorder to the Edirol R-09HR. ... I have to admit, I was a little skeptical prior to purchasing the Edirol, but after receiving it and using it multiple times, it's hard to imagine that I was once even using MD in the first place. I say go for the R-09HR, most definitely! You'll never look back. :-)

For a mere $50 above your maximum price, you could have that glorious PCM-D50 :) and get the windscreen thrown in.
Sony needs your money ;) ... again : )
