Title: Broadcasting my wedding over the internet?
Post by: thekittycatt on July 11, 2009, 03:18:27 PM
I am getting married August 8th.  My future wife to be is form Indonesia, and it looks like none of her family will get visas.  I was wondering how hard/easy it would be to hook up a camera so her family can watch over the internet?  I do not want to use a crappy web cam.  I was hoping to use something with a better picture.  Thanks for all the info.

Mikey

i think my old panny mini-dv had a usb web-cam function, but i never looked into it.  something like that might have a better picture quality, and you might be able to use skype to send the video.

Why not have someone film it and send them a DVD?

I plan on doing that, but if I could hook up the camera so they could watch it live, that would mean a lot to her.

you going to have internet access at the location you are getting married? if so just hook up a video camera on a tripod. Video out to a pc with a video cap card. Then throw video to http://www.ustream.tv/ I have never used it but I know G4 (Tech TV) used it to stream some live coverage of things from time to time. You can just output a live stream to them. They then use their bandwidth to broadcast it to viewers who access it via their website...

should work in theory..

Run tests too

Including all those people in Indonesia.  The last thing you want is for 80 people to flood the bandwith and have noone able to watch.

So no matter what you end up doing, do a "test wedding," one in which you are broadcasting from the location of ceremony, and those watching are watching from the location(s) at which they will be viewing.  Might also be worth some investigation to see if your future in-laws to be can host one big viewing party rather than having potentially dozens of different IP addresses trying to stream the same data.  This might end up being more fun for them, anyways

I was able to pull it off.  It would not have happened if not from some help from Phrog and some of his friends.  THANKS PHROG!!!!
