Title: H320 or JB3
Post by: jbell on July 13, 2009, 05:26:46 PM
I am looking into a back up recorder and I am up in the air between these two recorders.  I Wanted to get some feed back from others before I make a purchase.  Thanks in advance.

Iriver no question.  I had both, not that i had any problems with the JB3, but it looks like a shitty cd player and not nearly as easy to navigate, but beyond that they both have digi in 20GB ect.  somebody should take a pic who has both and sit em side by side.  Iriver

Yes--iriver. While I have had some issues with both, it's been far less with the iriver. The transfer process alone should be enough--so much easier on the iriver. That said, if you want my old jb3...

The 320 doesn't have a digital in though, does it?

That being said, I hate my JB3.

H320 all the way with rockbox.  It's a no brainer.  No software required to transfer music over and it's pretty easy to swap out the HDD and Battery.

Another vote, here, for H320...
I have been eyeing the one in the YS... I assume you are too...  ;)

That's the one.  An H120 slipped through my hands yesterday.  Not fast enough on the pm.

Rockboxed, it'll play videos too.
I had a working one briefly. I really liked it.

I have both (well.....an H120 not H320).   While the JB3 is a solid recorder, I favor the iRiver all the way.  The gain meters alone are far superior.

Chuck, What is a RTC mod for an Iriver?

Chuck, What is a RTC mod for an Iriver?

RTC is Real Time Clock.
I added a small chip that keeps time for the iHP-120 and iHP-140 recorders. There is a thread at the RockBox forum about it.

I own both.  Another Iriver vote is unnecessary at this point, but I don't know if all the advantages have been described.

The major plusses of the H320 IMO:

Rockbox is a MUCH better OS (I don't believe you can Rockbox the JB3)
Better battery life
Not prone to overheating (I've had several lost sets on sweltering days at outdoor festivals with the JB3)
Better meters
Smaller size
No need for proprietary software to be installed (handy if you need to hook up to someone else's computer)

The only disadvantage is the lack of optical input - otherwise it's a slam dunk...
