Title: 16:9 or 4:3

After finally learning how to use the new software I have, I can now create DVD's.

I have been doing them in 16:9 @ 720 x 480.  Is there better resolution to use?

It depends on what the source material was recorded in/at - you cannot create resolution.

I always record in wide screen 16:9, I figured since I had it I should use it.

16x9 is the aspect ratio.

720 x 480 is the resolution. If your camera records at a higher resolution, and if you can edit and burn at higher rates I'd do it.

I'll have to look if it is has a higher res, I guess my thought is for people who don't have widescreen TV's and can only display 4:3.  I don't have any such TV's

4:3 displays are a dying breed.  So I wouldn't dumb down my content for old tech.  They will just get your content letterboxed.

Exactly.

A 4x3 can display a 16x9 picture so go with the current/future format.

I agree. When I bought my mini-DV in early '06 before my son was born, I decided right from the start to shoot everything 16:9, so that when we are looking at the footage years later, it will fill the widescreens that everyone will end up having exclusively. Even though it's standard definition, it still looks better shot widescreen to me, even playing as letterbox on an older 4:3 set.

Slightly off topic, but:

Im all for 16:9 for view video - but Im truly hating 16:9 for a computer monitor. Too much mousing around to from one end of the screen to the other.

Im about ready to try rotating the damn thing so I have really tall monitor, with a more useable width.
