Title: Using your mic for a vocal presentation?

We're having a meeting with our city manager who will be addressing our whole department on Tuesday. The fire department is going to let us borrow their podium and speakers. They have everything except the microphone. Can I use one of my AKG 480's for this? Which cap? Card, Hyper or Omni?

Never thought about doing this so I just didn't know if it can be done...Thanks in advance!  ;D

Sure you can use your AKG for PA, if you want to.  But if the fire department has a podium PA, don't they have a mic for it?  Any old dynamic mic would be fine, and you would not have to risk using your AKG.

If you're going to use your AKG, you'll have to supply phantom power because I doubt the podium PA has got it.  And put a big windscreen on your mic to keep the spit off of it.

Either the card cap or hyper cap should work fine.

You would think that the fire dept. would have a mic for it. I don't really get that.

Didn't think about providing power to it. Could I just run one mic through either of my preamps and then out to the PA? I that how that works? Yea, I was planning on the windscreen anyways.

Yes, you can use either pre-amp.  (You're going to have the best front end that PA has ever seen.)  The podium PA probably has a line level input you could use, and it may not be balanced.  I'm just guessing here as to what you will find.  Better give yourself plenty of time to get it all to work together.

Never had a chance to use it. Someone, somewhere had an "ah-ha" moment and figured out where we could find a mic/podium combo.

I would have like to find out if it would have worked though... :-[
