Title: iRiver battery died mid record.
Post by: SeanceMascara on August 27, 2009, 11:52:41 AM
So I was recording Eddy Current Suppression Ring last week in Melbourne and forgot to charge my iRiver ahead of the show. About 40 minutes in my battery dies. I get home thinking there wont be a file as it wouldn't have saved but there was. The problem is, I can't open it in any program that I have on my PC. Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do?

-Chris.

If it is already on the PC, try encoding it to flac, then decoding it. There are reports somewhere on TS.com that this has allowed some tapers to recover files that editing programs have trouble opening.

Sounds like either a faulty file header or the header is reporting a different length than the actual file. Do a search for "header repair" if the above doesn't work.

There are two sections in the Computer Recording forum's stickied post dealing with data recovery and corrupt files.  You might find a solution there.

try http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,72936.0.html  I think this is what I used when that happened.  Make sure you have a backup of the original file before trying anything.

How was the show? Have seen ECSR at Gonerfest, great band!

It was great. They played a handful of new songs as well as a good selection of old songs. I saw them the night before also and they switched up the setlist a lot which is always great.
They are really one of the best bands Melbourne has to offer. I will be catching them as much as I can from now on.

Edit: I've uploaded the first nights show here for anyone who's interested. Second night to come.
