Title: Powerbook/USBpre/Spark Problem...
Post by: ChitownTaper on January 21, 2004, 11:16:00 PM
Okay, i was at a show this weekend and was running MK012>Audiomagic XLRs>USBpre 1.5>Spark ME 2.7 (15" G4 Powerbook)

Now what happened is the tape was rollin and the levels were going perfectly.  The band got off and I stopped the recording, clicked done and there wave form was pretty much non-existant.  It sounded like a skipping CD.  It was just one drum hit over and over and over.  I reset and everything seemed fine for the next band.  Everything again was fine.  I stopped the recording after and this time the first half of the wave form was normal and then the last half was the skipping again.  Luckily I backed up the last band but the first wasn't.

Anyone have any idea why this happened?  What I can do to fix it?

Thanks
cal

this sounds like an odd question, where was the time marker when it started doing this- that may clue me into a number of things that could be wrong with your system setup.  btw- which powerbook do you have?  i just config'd mine online and am gonna purchase it within a month or so

On the recording where it stopped half way through it was at 21 minutes 40 seconds the other one was skipping the whole way through.

What i don't understand is that all my levels were straight all the way through.  On the USBpre and in Spark.  Then as soon as the recording was done they were all jacked up.

p.s.- I have a 15" G4 Powerbook Ti, 1ghz, 1gb ram, superdrive, 60 gig hd, OsX 10.2.8

when you look at the waveforms do they indicate this or is it just your playback?

It looks normal.  I attached a screen capture (i made it grayscale to save space).

thanks

ok i think you may have your playback setting set wrong, i think your recordings might be fine- have you tried just burning to a cd in 16/44 and throwing it in a stereo?

That waveform does not look right after the glitch, blocked off and all.  Yes the playback could be screwed for the begining to not work but it seems that there is more going on . .

and I am no help figuring that out  :-\

good luck!

odd, it almost sounds like a processor or hd lockup.

I used to have this problem as well.  The only fix I found was updating to the latest version of Spark.  It was a HUGE problem for me in 2.7x, to the point where I was using OS 9 just for taping...  I haven't had the problem in 2.8x, however.
