Optical microphones have been announced and around for years, e.g....

I am sure they will come to the mainstream. And perhaps when they do, since the one shown above will be solid state, they will cost a few bucks for DC to daylight flat frequency response.

It will be one of those disruptive technologies that will blow the mic industry apart. Like DAW software did to the studio industry. Digital recording did to tape.

look forward to the listen to compare laser vs diaphram

hopefully it will be more dynamic than the diaphram
