so I like to use the dynamic compressor to soften loud applause etc. anyway I'm working with 24/48 files and I happened to have the bit meter opened. the portion the compression was applied to was now showing 16bit in the bit meter ??? just the edited portion, the rest is still showing 24bit in the bit meter.
so for some unknown reason it's truncating the portion that is edited. I could see if it were 16 bit changing to 24 b/c of the temp file but not the other way around.
I'm not rendering just doing the process. below are some pics to show I'm not crazy. I tested this on more masters and the same thing happens.
temp files are set to either 32 or 24 bit. no idea why it's doing this. looked around and never saw a setting that would cause this or fix it. audio properties are correct.
one other thing this is a show I've been slowly working on. ie edited some a week ago got back to it today. the portions that I applied the compression to last time remained 16 bit in the bit meter even after saving the file as 24. so it's not a "temp" thing.

looking at the bottom right corner of wavelab it appears the file is still 24/48. but its hard to tell due to the pic's being so small.

right but playing the portion that was edited the bit meter drops to 16 bit as seen in the 2nd pic. and like I said the parts I edited last week the same thing happens. ie the bit meter drops to 16 bit.

Stupid question I'm sure, definetly not trying to offend, but are you sure you set the bit depth and sample rate correctly when you rendered? I've done that a time or two by mistake :-[
I don't use any of the waves stuff. I'm hooked on UAD but before I got into UAD, I loved (and still use for certain flavors) the URS, Nomad/Blue Tube, PSP, and flux stuff. I'm not real familiar with that plug unfortunely.

to use the dynamics you don't render. you simply hit process. but my rendering settings are 24/48

still stumped ??? anyone?
to make things more confusing ;)
I even went back to THREE shows I know I used the dynamics between tracks. decoded the flacs and the bit meter read 24 bit where the dynamics where applied. so my first guess is that this is a new thing to happen to me, or somewhere between wavelab, cd wave , and traders little helper the file "fixed" itself. this isn't good if it was in fact truncated but it's a start.
so I take a "new" 24/48 file apply compression to a small part. bit meter jumps to 16bit >:(
I put it in cdwave, cut into two tracks. save as 24 bit, bit meter still jumps to 16! flac it and then decode and the same thing happens!
so I uninstall wavelab and reinstall and repeat all steps and the same damn thing is happening :-\
so it appears that this in fact is a new thing but no settings have been changed. doing it exactly like I always have and even did a fresh install of wavelab.

What are your current settings for dither? I think wavelab would apply dither to any internal processing that it is doing.

I use izotope for dither. if I just hit render (with out dithering) the settings are for 24/48 or "no change". adding fades, gain etc etc does not cause this to happen. only the dynamics.

I'm stumped on this one too, but I did read that Wavelab applies dither when doing any internal processing, so I kind of suspected that it might be related to the issue. -gg
