Title: Taping Comedy shows
Post by: kylieshotpants on October 24, 2009, 09:29:42 AM
Hi

What do other people use for recording comedy shows

At the moment I use a mini disc recorder with auto level adjustment and a microphone.

This works fine but I have to upload in realtime.

Can anyone recomend maybe a dictaphone that has the same option or another recorder that would have auto gain and records straight to a memory card or it's internal memory?

Thanks in advance

positioning is going to be a lot more important than what you tape with...I try to get as close to a stack as possible. hard limiting can also help a lot in post if you need to boost the volume of the comedian relative to the laughter

Sorry to necropost but I'm wondering if anyone knows any good resources for d/l live stand up? I'm on a kick lately. One thing I find about unofficial comedy recordings is that the quality is generally less than ideal. I thought TS might have some better luck than the average person. Anyone have any great recordings? I'm thinking about going to Louis CK in August. I don't really have a stealth rig but may try to roll with my Microtrack and 1/8 microphone.

you might find a few shows up on trader's den -- they allow standup, as opposed to dime

I've got a few recordings of comedy shows here in town where I was in charge of sound so I have soundboard audio and a couple video angles. I'd have to dig around to find them though, i just deleted their original files off my jb3 last week.

I'd be pretty interested to know who you have tapes of. Sounds sweet.

I remember seeing a tape up on STG way back in like 2004 of Dave Chapelle doing a surprise set at a tiny club somewhere in Ohio...would love to get a copy of that, if I'm even remembering what it was correctly
