Title: Pincer-style shocks smaller than AT8410a's
Post by: greenone on October 26, 2009, 03:11:25 PM
So I've come to the conclusion that the AT8410a's are more than likely overkill for me, but my mics are too large for the snap-in clip-type mounts (A20/Busman) or the Shure donuts (24mm). So I'd like to downsize my mounts but have no idea if there are other, smaller solutions that are like the AT410a's pincers. Recommendations are welcome. :)

try ebay and search for shock mounts. I bought two sdc suspended mounts for $15 each. They are made for larger sdc and work as well as the AT's.

Interesting...the QM-10's, right? How long are the center clip barrels on those? Just wondering how much smaller they are than the AT8410a's, which are like 4" from tip to tip on the elastic holders...

I would have to measure them when I get home but I would guess that the clip is around 2 inches, with the suspension adding another inch or so.

You could just find a cheap pair of mic clips of the right size from B&H's website and forget about shocks altogether.  If all you tape is loud music, I never thought shocks were a necessity anyway, although I've always used them since I have them.

Hm, hadn't even thought about spring-loaded mic clips. I'd only ever seen the snap-in kind but now I feel like a dope. :P Thanks!
