Do you know if it would work with cdwav, sony vegas dvd editing, audacity, etc. Thanks
It looks interesting

CDwave = good
Audacity = good
Vegas = Don't know
I've used XP, Vista, MAC OSX, and WIN 7...and WIN 7 is the best out of all of them (just as long as you're not an idiot and click links in emails or surf a lot of Porn).
Especially when you factor in the cost of the hardware, Win 7 beats OSX hands down. For lazy morons, OSX is the way to go. You don't have to worry about viruses, but Microsoft now offers free quality anti-virus software, so dollar for dollar I think Win 7 wins.
Sound Forge also works on Win 7. I've gotten Wavelab to work, but it's not 100% reliable.

thanks my xp crapped out on one of my computers and after i reinstall and get the data off of it i am most likely upgrading, i can get win 7 for 30$ because i am a student and it sounds good as long as i can use what you said i could i'll be good

I have windows 7 and trying to get all my stuff set up so I can start torrents again.

I didn't have much luck with 5.0b in windows 7 so I moved to audacity.
I like windows 7 though besides the fact my scsi isn't supported ::)

You might want to check if your school has a MSDN license. My university has one and I get all the Micro$oft products for free.

Wavelab 5. I don't remember everything I had to do to get it to work, but I'm pretty sure Windows 7 has a wizard of some sort that ran and told me what to do.
It's nice to have it working but for the most part I am using Sound Forge now (ver 10). I'm not sure how stable Wavelab is, since I haven't used it much in Win 7.

I was not able to get Wavelab 5 to run in Windows 7. It kept starting and then after the splash screen it would close. I ended up having to download Virtual PC and XP mode from M$ and I run it in that. Even then it is a tad buggy. I have had no problem with utorrent fwiw.

I like windows 7 though besides the fact my scsi isn't supported (http://www.taperssection.com/Smileys/throwback/rolleyes.gif)
Here are the adaptec SCSI adapters supported with Windows 7:

And a search link on ebay:

There is a seller selling 39320's for BIN at $10 with $5 shipping - If you really need SCSI in Windows 7

Anyone know if there's a way to use the JB3 under Win7? About to build a computer that will use Win7...

not the point... and I do have scsi in win7; it's the fact that you can't install to it unless
you buy the u320 cards. u160 should still be supported period especially since
the drivers were there for vista.. which is how I got my u160 up and running in 7...
I mean my fricking ati remote wonder is supported and works right away with no user tweaks/downloads...
Granted it is a few years newer than u160 is.. (99 vs 03)
yet how many small business's still have servers with onboard u160 vs having a ATI remote wonder...

How many small businesses use or will use W7 as their server software though? I would think that nowadays that most NT4 servers are hopefully gone. W2k still has a decent install base for being 10 years old so that leaves most small business' (not using linux) using a server OS (SBS, 2k3, 2k8, R2, etc) that continues to offer legacy SCSI support. You can get SBS usually bundled with blowout servers for about what you'd pay for W7 Ultimate anyways.

Just FYI. I can conform that Wavelab 6 , Samplitude 10, Sequoia 7, Adobe Photoshop 3&4, nero 7 ,8 & 9. All work just fine in windows 7 ultimate. Running on a 1.8ghz single core amd sempron laptop with 1.5gb ram.
Edit to add. Wavelab 6 runs smoothly on vista 64bit also. However I still use samplitude because it is MUCH faster in processing and results in smaller output files. Yet with higher bit rates of playback.

Looks like you may get your wish as Adaptec updated their support page stating that they would release U160 drivers for Win 7
I can understand why MS would not include U160 drivers in Win 7, sometimes you just got to move on. It's not practical to update all the drivers for every device supported in your previous version while adding in newer devices (i.e. newer SATA/SAS controllers).
About businesses I think there are two things to note:
1. Most businesses I know are moving full steam to virtual environments and away from physical servers (with exception to some tasks such as DB) so driver support in guest OS's is less and less important
2. Most Business Servers leverage RAID controllers not standard SCSI and from my experience the drivers for these controllers tend to fade faster then Adaptec SCSI drivers - hardware companies build in obsolescence as they don't want to pay for the costs to support hardware 5-10 years old
The only reason I still run SCSI is for Audio capable DDS drive support and for me spending $15 bucks or so is ok.

I have had no problem using some of the progs. already listed and have been running EAC and Pro Tools 8LE just fine on win. 7 for about 3 months now.

I've been running Adobe Audition 3 and the Ozone 4 VST on the 64-bit versions of Windows 7 release candidate and then the production Win 7 Pro since last Spring with no problems (fewer issues than I experienced with Vista, at any rate). You need to apply a 3.0.1 patch from Adobe for Audition to run on the x64 version. Audition only runs as a 32-bit app, but the nice thing about x64 is I can run two instances of Audition to process large 24-bit files simultaneously on a Core i7 machine with multiple SATA drives and 12Gb of RAM - I use one drive for audio files and two others for workspace. Handy when I have a lot of resampling or dithering to do.
Also installed Win 7 Home Premium x32 on my laptop and my wife's PC in November. Much better UI and home networking implementation than Vista. Only hardware/software I've had issues with is a HD-PVR TV capture device, still waiting for a Win 7 driver from Hauppauge.
