Title: Battery plugs for iriver ihp1x0
Post by: mmadd29 on November 19, 2009, 07:15:32 PM
I would like to replace the battery in one of my irivers.  Is there a place I could buy the battery plug so that I can just put a new one on the battery, and leave the clip on the old battery.  I don't mind if I have to get a package of them.

Thanks in advance

My iRiver HP-120 battery died recently and I replaced it per these instructions (http://www.pdainternalbattery.com/iriverinstall.html).  Removing the old connector and inserting the new connector was a little tricky due to tight clearance, but it snapped in just fine.

I didn't shop around much at all (unusual for me) and picked up a 1450 mAH replacement (v. stock 1300 mAH), with proper polarity connector, for $20.  Looks like there are cheaper or higher capacity batteries (though some have connectors with reversed polarity) and I should have done more research before buying to find a higher capacity option.  Looks like 1700 mAH batteries are readily available, and I've read 2200 mAH are available, too, but I haven't seen any (nor really looked).  At ~10% longer run-times than stock, I'm perfectly happy with my replacement.

Anyway...I'm not quite sure what you're asking.  My replacement battery came with the proper cable and plug already connected, so I simply removed the old battery + cable + plug and dropped in the new battery + cable + plug.

I have had a few of them and i found it much faster to clip the wires and solder the new battery in place, lot less strain on the plug also doing it that way

That would be easier, I just took it apart and the dude who sold it to me replaced the battery.  the reason it wasn't charging is that there is no battery clip, he just shoved the wires into the socket, and the postive lead is loose.  So now I certainly need a wire clip for the battery.  the board is so small that I don't think I want to unsolder the clip and go straight to the board.
