Title: help with soundforge
Post by: Gordon on January 26, 2004, 04:02:07 PM: just got a audiophile 24/96 installed. I have soundforge6. when recording it's showing cliping when it hits near zero on the dat. there is no clipping on the dat. I see an option for reset clip. should I do this? if so to what? seems like I'm gonna need a lot of help with this shit.

The reset button is just to reset the metering. It has no effect on the recording whatsoever. Check the connections between the dat and the soundcard. Make sure it's not brushing up against any metal or anything like that. Once in a while, when I'm transferring my dats, I'll get periods of digital noise every few seconds because of this. Sucks because then I have to transfer the whole thing over again.

Two things:

[1] Are you *sure* there is no clipping on the DAT? DAT meters aren't renowned for being terribly accurate.

[2] After transferring, check for DC Offset - if offset, this would ooch levels higher on one side and lower on the other.

unless his dat is offset, this is not a problem as all M-Audio Delta series cards have a DC offset of 0
