So in the next few days/week I will be picking up a new Macbook Pro after my macbook got stolen in September. *YAY*! But after selling my Dell desktop to get some cash for my macbook I don't have anything to transfer my DAT tapes!
I was looking at these

but are there other USB interfaces out there than these. I am not even sure what to choose. I know that I need one with a Digi in for my 7-pin DAT transfers, but also to hookup my studio monitors to. Would it be possible to be able to do laptop recordings with these as well? My price range is $500. Any help/advice with this would be awesome. Thanks for looing.

if you're just looking to transfer your DATs, just spend a few bucks on an optical converter. the macbook pro has an optical digital input

http://www.esi-audio.com/products/u24xl/ is what I used before I got my Microtrack, now I just run DAT>MT and then transfer via USB.
http://www.amazon.com/Midiman-M-Audio-Coaxial-Bi-Directional-Converter/dp/B00006J074 is a cheaper alternative along the lines of Scott's suggestion; I'm sure there are cheaper format convertors but that one is definitely legit.

what kind of cable do I have to get for this? Also if looking to transfer cassettes how can I do this when all my deck has are RCA jacks?
-
I transfer cassettes by going tape deck > DAT deck (passthrough) > whatever. Use your DAT deck's A/D convertor if you don't have another one available. Better than going tape deck > soundcard.
